Area of Work*
In my role as coordinator of occupational therapy at the School for Special Education at Beit Issie Shapiro I see how play integrates into the lives of the students during the day at school and in the afternoons in the home environment. In addition to using conventional games and toys, in recent years I have begun to use the ipad to promote the development of play skills. I am also a coordinator at our Technology Consulting Center. Part of our agenda at the center is to promote the use of tablets for play, with play as the goal not just the medium. In addition we provide consultation services to families, professionals, and other institutions, regarding the use of tablets for children with disabilities. We are also in contact with app developers, sharing our expertise working with children with disabilities to improve universal access to tablet applications.
Expertise Contributions*
I have been working as an occupational therapist with children for the last 10 years. A central part of my work as an OT relates to promoting and facilitating the development of play skills. I believe that in order to enable a child to play it is important to create an optimal environment for play to emerge. This includes knowing how to adapt the activity and the play environment, both physical and social. I believe this expertise can contribute to goals of the LUDI Network.
